There were four TAC runners in action and throughout the three days times were suppressed by the windy conditions. James West made the 1500m final but was disappointed to finish 11th. However, he stormed back in Sunday, finishing 2nd to Marc Scott in the 5000m and taking a few big scalps. James ran 13.44.47, but the last 1k was in 2.26. Maybe he will have a crack at the European Championship qualifying time in the next few weeks, which tends at 13.24. James' time keeps him 4th on the TAC all time list behind Mark Scrutton, Chris Olley and Allen Graffin.
Friday 1500 metres heats - James West, Sean Molloy, Kieran Reilly. James West qualified for Saturday's final as a 'fastest loser'.
Saturday 800 metres heats - Ben Murphy 5th in heat 2. 1500m final - 11th James West

Cape Wrath Ultramarathon report by Anthony Stevens
I was lucky enough to spend May 22-29 in the company of 270 ultra runners from around the world running the 400km Cape Wrath Ultra up the Northwest coast of Scotland. At the end of the wettest May in this part of Scotland for 20 years, the conditions were truly horrendous underfoot with endless, relentless suction bogs and liquid mud, thigh-deep river crossings with hail, rain and sub-zero windchill for good measure. As many of you know, I have done a number of multi day ultra races before, but this was by far the most challenging I have done so far – I would rank it as being even harder than the Winter Spine Race – and the inclement conditions meant that even the camps each night provided only limited opportunities to recover. 104 of us reached the finish line, with over 60% retiring early due to injury, hypothermia, exhaustion or running out of time. The 38% finish rate was by far the lowest in the race’s history.
Out of the 270 starters, I finished in 23rd position overall, 21st in the men’s race, in a time of 64h30m, which was at the top end of my target range – I was aiming for a top 40 or top 50 finish and a time of 60-70 hours based on the results of previous races. I think it’s fair to say that the conditions added an extra 5 or 6 hours to the overall time, as there were large stretches of mud and bog that ordinarily might have been quite runnable, and the sleet and strong headwinds made even some of the rockier, and hard-packed sections challenging. Next up is the 268-mile Summer Spine Race starting on June 19th, which is going to place a huge burden on my recovery over the next couple of weeks.

National Cross Country Trip 2023 - Information and bookings now available
I know that we have only just started the Summer, but I am asking everyone to consider next year’s National Cross Country Championships, which are being held on Saturday 25th February 2023, at Harewood House, just north of Leeds.
The annual trip, championships and dinner have been a highlight of the club’s calendar for many years and I hope as many as possible can support it once again.
Costs have risen, but hopefully the amount of notice will enable people to plan ahead.
Full details are on the Race Information page and in the file below.

TAC finished 2nd amongst the 8 clubs. (see Scores section in link bellow).
Results are going up here - data.opentrack.run/en-gb/x/2022/GBR/nal-champ-1a/
See summary on the Results 2022 page.
The distance runners contributed well to the team score, not dropping a single point across the men's 800m, 1500m, 5000m and steeplechase, whilst there were also excellent women's A string wins from Alex Shipley (1500m) and Verity Hopkins (3000m). Verity moved to 8th on the TAC all time list with 9.40.4 and Alex is competing for TAC as a 'higher claim' athlete, whose first claim club Milton Keynes is not in the league (she is also Miles Weatherseed's girlfriend !).
800m - Jordan Chambers (1.52.9) and Sean Molloy (1.53.9) won convincingly, whilst Jess Murphy ran a pb of 2.21.2 and Annabelle Hales had her first track race of the season.
1500m - As mentioned above Alex Shipley ran a fine 4.34.7 to win the women's race and Grace Fleming improved her best time for the season. Miles Weatherseed and Jamie Goodge both looked good in a 1500m which was way quicker on the second half.
3000m/5000m - Verity Hopkins and Lily Slack scored maximum points in the women's race, as did Steve Strange and Marshall Smith (higher claim).
3000m steeplechase - Team Manager Michael Ellis won convincingly and Tom Richards preserved the maximum points score for the TAC men's distance squad as he swept by a rival in the home straight.
400m - Ben Murphy stepped down to 400m and was 2nd in the B string in 50.2
400m hurdles - Calum Laing surprised us all with a big win in the 400m hurdles B string in 62.9.

James Kingston broke the seven year old Tonbridge Parkrun record held by Charlie Joslin-Allen by 2 seconds, with 15.15.
James will be out of action for a couple of weeks, so decided to have a crack at the record, although it was tougher than he had anticipated.

Somehow, the team came from more than 2.5 minutes behind to snatch victory in the last half mile. Every one of them gave their all and nobody had a ‘shocker’, with some having stunning runs.
Corey De’Ath led off, coming home 23rd in 26.56. It wasn’t’ great but was only 1.14 from the front. Nathan Marsh, who had come into the team, late on Friday, produced a superb performance, moving the team to 10th with 15.28, which turned out to be the 4th fastest short leg of the whole race !
Jamie Goodge moved the team to 7th with a solid 26.49 and Michael Ellis, who is running well moved up another two places with 15.43. Ben Cole, who has been improving each week, ran 26.29 to move into 3rd. Miles Weatherseed was probably the most disappointed, as his 15.52 lost ground to those in front. So, at halfway the team were 2.36 from the leaders, Highgate.
Steve Strange is so much stronger physically and mentally than he has been and although he slipped one place, he ran 26.49. Jamie Bryant moved us ahead of Bristol into 3rd with 15.42. Then came Kieran Reilly, who recorded 26.10, staying in 3rd, but cutting into the time gap ahead. Highgate’s lead was down to 1.25, which is where I thought it had to be to give us a chance. However, Cameron Payas, who ran 15.41 slipped 10 seconds further back on the 10th leg.
Then came James Kingston, who were hoping would go well and he did, with spades, recording 25.53, the 7th fastest long stage and ahead of some very good senior internationals. This would have earnt him an England under 20 selection, but unfortunately he is soon due to have an operation on his ear. The Highgate lead was now at 53 seconds and Tonbridge were in 2nd. At the Southern Relay, two weeks ago, Ben Murphy had run 59 seconds quicker than the last runner due out for Highgate.
Ben soon started closing and actually took the lead with about half a mile to go, to secure an epic win.
