BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Championships, at Stanmer Park,
Brighton, Saturday 31st January - Videos and full results loaded !
The BUCS championships are very popular with students, but also provide top quality races. Today the womens race was won by Emelia Gorecka and the mens A race by Jonny Hay. For those not in the 6 to run team for their university there is a mens B race. Henry Pearce (10th) and Nicole Taylor (35th) were the highest placed from TAC. Ryan Driscoll almost pulled out a win in this event, but lost out to Scott Halstead over the last half mile or so, to finish second. Nathan Marsh finished around 12th.

Other weekend news, Friday to Sunday 23rd to 25th January
Kieran Reilly ran 4.08.52 for the mile at the Gladstein Invitational meeting at Indiana, USA on Friday. This was just a couple of seconds away from his personal best. Kieran reports that they went through halfway in 2.06 and picked up well, so he feels confident of being able to go a fair bit quicker, later in the season. Full results at -

Kieran followed up with a very strong 800m relay leg in 1.52.5 later.
Robbie Farnham-Rose had a disappointing race over 3000 metres to finish 6th in 8.19.16 at the Vanderbilt Indoor International. He was under par this week, due to an injury to his arm and shoulder, but hopefully he will bounce back quickly.
There wasn't much TAC parkrun action going on this weekend although Dan Bradley (17.07) was first home at Tonbridge and Matt Harvey ran a pb for second at Maidstone in 18.29.
On Sunday, Max Nicholls, was awarded an England vest when finishing third in the Hannut Lotto Cross Cup cross country race in Belgium. Max was competing in the under 20 men's race. Full results are at http://www.sport.be/lottocrosscup/2014/fr/hannuit/uitslagen/live.html

Last training session for Hamish
Hamish Johnstone had his last training session at Tonbridge AC, on Thursday night, before moving to Australia. We all wish Hamish well for the future. Thanks go to Becky O'Hara (our very own Mary Berry !) for producing the cake.
Meanwhile 'mum' Amanda and Abi will be at the Southern champs on Saturday, to say their own goodbyes and , in Abi's case, race.
We will all certainly miss the Johnstone's but wish them all well in Australia. In the two years that they have been at TAC they have all contributed hugely to TAC and been great team supporters. Finally good luck to 'dad' Don in his new job.

A terrific weekend of diverse performances
This weekend was possibly one of the most encouraging that TAC distance runners have had, outside of a major championship event. We had four individual winners at the Kent Schools Championships, with many other positive performances. Then Robbie Farnham-Rose and Kieran Reilly ran well as the USA indoor season started.
On Sunday Charlie Joslin-Allen and Henry Pearce made the top ten of a national class senior mens race at the British Cross Challenge, at Cardiff, whilst Luca Russo capped the weekend off with a fine bronze medal, over 1500 metres, at the South of England Indoor Championships.

South of England Indoor Championships, at Lee Valley, Sunday 18th January
Videos loaded !
Whilst almost all the TAC distance runners are focussed on cross country in the UK, we have two or three who are having an indoor track season.
The Southern Championships seemed well supported with the senior men's 800 metres requiring three rounds in one day. Alex Hookway ran 1.59.88 in his heat to qualify for the semi finals. However, he could not progress further and was 5th in 2.00.85.
Luca Russo qualified for the final by finishing second in the toughest heat in 4.01.62 and then ran a very determined final to snatch the bronze medal in 3.58.28. Photos below of Luca.

Charlie Joslin-Allen had his first taste of competition in a senior race of this stature and excelled to take sixth place, whilst Henry Pearce was tenth.
Then in the under 20s race Corey De'Ath placed fifth, hopefully showing that he is getting back to his best.

The Tunbridge Wells parkrun wasn't held this week due to the conditions, but Dan Bradley was second at Tonbridge and Graeme Saker second at Maidstone. Nicola Summerfield was the first lady at Tonbridge and not far away from her pb, despite illness in the week and it being slippery underfoot.
Chris Olley also found the cold and icy conditions tough but won at Fulham Palace in 15.37, although he is down in the official results as 'unknown'.

New Years Day Parkruns, Thursday 1st January
2015 started off well for TAC Distance Runners when Charlie Joslin-Allen ran 15.17 at the Tonbridge parkrun. Charlie decided to do it, since he unfortunately has to work on Saturday and cannot run in the Kent Championships. In cool and very windy conditions, he had some help from Robbie Farnham-Rose, who gave him a bit of shelter and also helped clear the way on the return as they faced outgoing runners ! Robbie pulled to one side 300m from the finish (no bar code), but jogged home in 15.40. Charlie's time is a Tonbridge parkrun record and also a TAC outright parkrun record, beating Chris Olley's time at Fulham by ten seconds.
Tilly Hall was the first female home at Tonbridge in 21.41, whilst Gary Duggan did the double, running at Maidstone with an 8.30am start and Tonbridge at 10.30am !
Bede, Mark, Lucy and Ellen Pitcairn-Knowles both ran at Bromley. Full results are at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/results/firstfinishers/
