Saturday 5km parkruns, 1st August
On what is otherwise a quiet weekend of action there were plenty of Tonbridge runners at various parkruns -
Tunbridge Wells - 1st Dan Bradley 16.40 (this was the nominated TAC Summer Grand Prix event.
Dartford - 1st Corey De'Ath 16.12
Maidstone - 1st Graeme Saker 17.23
Evesham - 1st James Taylor 17.03
Tonbridge - 1st Stuart Brown 16.16, 2nd Julian Rendall 16.17. Steve Fennell started late and missed the start, but recorded 16.09 on his own watch. I am pretty sure that Polly Pitcairn-Knowles was the first lady home.
Also Toby Ross completed his 50th parkrun and Dan Schofield was celebrating his birthday with a run.
More details to follow but full results will be at - http://www.parkrun.org.uk/results/firstfinishers/

TAC won this final match to clinch second place in the division and so gain promotion back to the top level.
One of my highlights of the day was seeing Kiri Marsh and Holly Gordon, waiting at the finish with a few of the other 3000m runners, to greet the last runner home. This meant standing in the wet and cold for the best part of two minutes, so well done girls.
In the under 20 mens age group there were A-string wins for Toby Ralph, who front ran 1.57.8 pb at 800m, Corey De'Ath (3000m) and Stuart Brown (2000m steeplechase in 6.32.6 (pb).
The under 20 women's events saw wins for Hannah Czarnowski (800m in 2.22.7) plus Alice Wood (1500m in 4.56.1) and it was good to see these two racing so well.
None of the under 17 men's distance runners claimed an A-string victory, but credit goes to Sam Crick for a 4.12.3 pb at 1500m, where he placed second.
Alice Ralph (1500m in 4.52.6) claimed another victory in the u17s, whilst Polly Pitcairn-Knowles won the 1500m steeplechase in 5.34.4.

Watford Open Meeting, Wednesday 15th July
Race videos now loaded !
This was probably the best open meeting of the season so far, as it was noticeable how many personal best were being run, some by athletes who have had an up and down season so far. For TAC distance runners it was a perfect night with a 100%, 7/7 ratio of pbs to races.
James West kicked off the evening for TAC with an 800 metres in the British Milers Club Gold Standard A race, where he ran a pb of 1.51.62, to shave 0.03s from his best time. This moved James from 8th to 3rd on the 2015 TAC club rankings.
Next up was Dom Brown, in the BMC 1500m A race and he gave it everything to run a pb of 3.46.76, which was a 1.5s improvement. This moved Dom up one place to 3rd on the 2015 TAC club rankings, slipping ahead of George Duggan.
In the BMC Mens 1500m B race Luca Russo was on track for a performance well below 3.50, until about 150 metres to go. Hanging on for all he had he ran 3.51.17 to finally go sub 3.52 and take 0.9s from his best. Luca is 7th on the club rankings.
There were 28 open 800 metre races and Hannah Czarnowski was in race 11. Hannah ran a terrific 2.17.98 to improve her season's best by more than three seconds and her pb by 1.5s. This moved her up one place to fourth on the TAC 2015 rankings. That pb was two years old. Similarly, Alice Ralph, in race 13, lowered her pb to 2.16.42, which was her first time under 2.17 and underlined her third position in the TAC list for 2015.
Ollie Harding had the biggest pb of the night, running 2.05.71, to finally beat his 2012 best of 2.25.0 ! Unfortunately for Ollie, I missed his race and so there is no video of his fine performance (everyone should try and wear a TAC vest at these open meetings).
Finally, Stuart Brown had a bitter-sweet performance, as he had his best race of the season, over any distance. He ran 2.00.19, to improve by more than five seconds, but just missed out on a sub 2 clocking.

Sunday news, 12th July
Its always good to hear of athletes doing well after difficult spells and so today was particularly enjoyable, with four runners 'reporting in' and being pleased with their runs.
John Harley set a new club record for the over 60 age group at 3000 metres with 11.21.83. This was achieved at the Medway and Maidstone Open Meeting, despite quite windy conditions.
At the same meet Jamie Brown ran 400 metres in 53.11 for a personal best, whilst Jordan Saul took four seconds from his seasons best at 800m with 2.08.71. James Crombie (u13) ran an 800m pb of 2.28.03. Full results of the Medway and Maidstone open meeting are now on the Results 2015 page.
At Crawley and representing Kent in the inter counties Hannah Czarnowski ran 7.44.77 for 2000 metres steeplechase, which was a 19.3 second improvement on her pb. This placed her 4th in the race. For once Hannah had the 'luxury' of not having raced in various other events before the steeplechase, which she often does in league matches. Hannah is now ranked 11th in the UK at the distance on Power of 10.
Joe Watts finished 10th in the Uckfield Lions 10k in 42.38. Full results are on the Results 2015 page.

The open meeting was an opportunity for some to take on the rarely run 1 mile distance, where Tilly Hall and Bede Pitcairn-Knowles recorded the fastest TAC female and male times, on the night. John Harley set a club over 55 and 60 record.
There was another club record in the 3000m set by Ellen Crombie, with some impressive debuts, by some of the TAC contingent.
One of the highlights was seeing Ben Brooks inflict a convincing defeat on his dad, Steve' over 200m.

Chris Olley selected for GB under 20 team for European Championships
Chris Olley has been selected for the Great Britain team to compete in the European under 20 championships later this month.
Chris will represent GB in the 5000 metres final, which takes place on Saturday 18th July, in Eskilstuna, Sweden. It will be his second selection for the national team, having competed at the World Cross Country Championships, in China, back in March.
The nineteen year old attended Sevenoaks School and now studies at Imperial College in London, being a member of the Tonbridge club for almost five years. Chris was a relative late comer to the sport and really only started training seriously in his last couple of years at school. He has developed a very disciplined regime, despite being a first year Physics student at university. He had a very solid Winter’s training, which would see him consistently manage 70 miles in a week, with double day training sessions. Then come the Summer he has been able to add some faster work, including racing over the shorter 1500 metres distance regularly.
To gain selection Olley ran 14.18.41 for the 5000 metres, but has backed it up with personal bests of 3.52.06 for 1500m and 8.19.31 for 3000 metres this season. He is currently ranked 4th in the UK and 12th in Europe at the 5000 metres, within the age group.
The European under 20 championships take place between 16th and 19th July, so Chris will travel out to Sweden next week with the team.

TAC had the weakest squad out in this league so far this season, with many gaps on the team sheet and as a result finished fourth of the four teams in the match.
George Duggan won the 800 metres in 1.54.2 and there was an encouraging 3.58.0 from Sean Molloy to finish 2nd in the 1500m, having passed 800 in 2.13. However, the 'stars' of the show were once again Alice Ralph and Hannah Czarnowski. Alice ran 800m in 2.19.0, 400m in a pb of 62.4 and was not far off another pb in the 1500m, which she won in 4.52.1. Hannah did the same triple and set a 400m pb of 61.9. They then both ran a leg in the 4x400m relay !
Polly Pitcairn-Knowles won the womens 1500 metres steeplechase.

Watford Open Meeting, Wednesday 1st July
Videos loaded !
Six TAC distance runners were in action on a very warm evening at Watford.
There were 17 races at 1500 metres and Tonbridge had two competitors in the final and fastest one. Chris Olley (u20) ended up leading for much of the way before finishing third in 3.52.95, once again being less than a second away from his pb. One of those who sprinted by near the finish, was Donald Carter, who is now a fully fledged TAC member. Donald, also missed his own pb by just 0.09s, although running a season's best of 3.52.69.
Ben Reynolds, was at the front of the second, of three, 3000 metre races and was heading for a sub 9 performance, as an over 50, before a thigh strain caused him to slow a bit on the last lap. Ben ran 9.01.62, which I think places him in the top three in the World for the age group this year. He is due to race in the World Masters Championships, in France later this month.
Harry Paton ran 9.06.47 in the same race as Ben, which showed that he is regaining fitness, after injury in the Winter, whilst Jordan Saul ran a pb by 34.4s with 10.01.48.
The sixth TAC member racing was Michael Ellis (u20), who ran 4.20.98 for 1500m, which was disappointingly five seconds outside his recent pb.

There were a mass of other personal bests and wins by the distance runners and I have shown these, plus the winners in the photo slideshow below.

Tonbridge AC Summer parkrun Grand Prix update
From Mark Pitcairn-Knowles, following the latest event at Lullingstone on 27th June
It was a beautiful day at the rural location of Lullingstone Park Run. There were 8 TAC members enticed by the prospect of higher points on offer. The organisers really appreciated the presence of our runners. It was great to have the support of Alan and Di. Dan Bradley was first home and just missed JT’s course record by 4 seconds. JT was late to arrive but still managed to finish third ! Steve Keywood was easily the best of the more mature runners (5th Overall) on a course that clearly suited him. This result has pushed him into 3rd place in the overall GP standings, 1 point behind Cain, but having only registered two scores so far. But a further one point ahead is JT, after registering 3 scores so far.
Those that were there will be glad to hear that my 82 year old Dad appears to have made a full recovery after his fall that left him unconscious for 4 mins and very confused for an hour after, CT scans etc showed no internal damage.
Next event is back at Tonbridge on the 11th July.
The parkrun Grand Prix is hotting up, just as the weather is ! See the Grand Prix league table below - Ed

Cambridge Harriers and British Milers Club Meeting, at Sutcliffe Park, Eltham, Wednesday 24th June
Videos loaded !
The highlight of the evening was Kathleen Faes running 4.27.67 for a Tonbridge under 15 girls record, which was the 7th fastest ever in the UK in this age group. Kathleen's time broke Julie Adkin's (Goodge) record, which was set in 1986 and was not far short of Julie's under 17 record (4.26.4) and Kelly Holmes' under 20/senior record of 4.26.1. Kelly 'retired' from the sport in her late teens and then made a comeback a few years later, when she joined Ealing.
There were also personal bests for Michael Ellis (1500m 4.15.32) and Dan Watt (5000m i15.58.94). Tom Cox equalled his seasons best with 1.57.43 over 800m.
Sean Molloy (49.63) and Alex Hookway (53.79) both raced over 400m, before helping with the pace making for the BMC in the 800m and 1500m races.

National under 20 and 23 Championships, incorporating GB trials for European Championships
at Bedford, Sunday 21st June - Day 2
Videos loaded !
On day 2 of the championships TAC had four competitors in finals action. Dom Brown was in the under 23 mens 1500 metres final, where he had qualified as 'only' a fastest loser on Saturday. However, in the final he surpassed all expectations to finish fourth in what was a very tactical race, held in windy conditions.
The other three were all in the under 20 mens 1500m final, but having performed so well on Saturday were disappointed with their Sunday races. James West couldn't quite keep in touch with the leaders on the final lap and placed 5th, whilst Miles Weatherseed and George Duggan were 11th and 12th, respectively.

Chris Olley will have to wait to see whether he is selected for the European under 20 championships. He is the third ranked of three athletes who have the qualifying time.
Ryan Driscoll has the massive task of trying to run a 13 second pb to get the 8.45 European under 23 qualifying time, that would guarantee him GB selection. His only chance is this coming Saturday at Watford.

Southern Athletics League, at Brighton, Saturday 20th June
The Tonbridge team was severely weakened, due to a fixture clash with several other events. This meant that the team finished third of the four clubs at Brighton.
There were distance wins for Tom Cox (800m), Marcin Urbanowski (5000m) and Alice Ralph (2000m steeplechase)
