Tonbridge School Track and facilities closed and TAC training cancelled
Tonbridge School have confirmed that the track, courts, pitches, centre and gym are all closed from midnight tonight (Saturday), following the Government's announcement this afternoon.
This means that effectively TAC training is back to where we were in November when it was only possible to meet/train with one other person outdoors.
I could elaborate with views etc but there is little point , other than it is an extremely frustrating situation for everyone.

The competition is hotting up, with David Suddes, the only runner to so far complete all ten courses, heading the competition.

Currently we plan to go ahead with this event, although with a different format.
Starts will be in waves, with the fastest groups going first this year.
Handicaps will be removed from times after the events, to determine the best performer.
The usual request for small presents to then be drawn in order of finishing will be replaced with every entrant requested to bring a donation for the local food bank. Angie Crush will administer this on the day.
The event will be run over an accurate 5km cross country course, consisting of 2x2.5km laps.

Alan Newman and Sue James get married !
Alan Newman and Sue James got married on Monday 14th December after a 31 year engagement !
It was also Sue's 70th birthday so she moves up an age group.
These two great supporters of the veterans/masters scene at the club and internationally chose to get married in their GB kit !
Alan coaches and organises the Adult Development and Masters distance runners at TAC.

Mallory Park 10km Road Race, Leicestershire, Sunday 13th December
Jamie Goodge and Simon Coppard both made excellent debuts over 10km.
Jamie finished 10th in 30.58 and Simon 13th in 31.18.

PB5K Series at Ardingly Showground, Sunday 13th December
There were good quality line-ups for these 5k races at the show ground.
Miles Weatherseed finished 8th overall in 14.41 running in wave 1, whilst Kieran Reilly won wave 2 in 14.50 and was 16th overall.

Ben Cole ran 8.50.57 at his 'home' track on Friday evening and was the fastest performer on the night, winning the final race.

Chris Olley runs 13.42 for 5000 metres near Los Angeles, Friday 4th December
Chris Olley finished 10th in the 5000 metres B race at what was called The Track Meet, at San Juan Capistrano, near Los Angeles, on Friday night.
Chris was a couple of seconds outside his personal best as he recorded 13.42.14, having run 2.46/7 for each of the first 4 kilometres, before finishing with a 2.37. This was his first race since February.

"Come on Tonbridge !" - Books 1 and 2 by Mark Hookway now available from Amazon
I had to do something since May so wrote a couple of books about our experiences at Tonbridge AC since 2005. A lot of detail and many memories. Available through Amazon with any royalties going in a pot for athlete/event development.
The books are called "Come on Tonbridge !" Diary of a Dreamer, the title being inspired by 'Jock' the bus driver that we have used over many years on various trips.
Hope they bring back some memories for some and also are useful to others.
Be warned as they are warts and all accounts and won't appeal to everyone, I am sure.

Tonbridge AC Distance Runners Challenge November and December 2020
I hope that everyone is ok and managing to stay as positive as possible.
A few of us led by Mark Pitcairn-Knowles have come up with a challenge that might keep a few motivated through to the start of January.
It is based on a series of courses, where you run, post your time and accumulate points.
There are 10 courses (some simply a 2 lap version of a single loop), with half of them suitable for under 13 and 15s.
All the rules and course details are on the attached document and I will also post on the http://www.tacdistancerunners.com web site.
Some of the routes are simpler to follow than others, so make sure that if giving any a go that you do a bit of planning and preparation.
Mark PK has produced the document and even included some video to help with the Penshurst Place route !
For supporters, some offer a nice walk and also have coffee and teas nearby (not all !)
Nichola Evans has offered to collate the results and we will circulate updates. Her contact t details are included in the document.
We really need some evidence that you have done the correct course but if you don’t happen to have a GPS watch then please submit as much ‘evidence’ as you can !
Whether you can only do one of the courses or all ten please give it a go, as simply giving a bit of interest to others at this strange time will make it worthwhile.

Government Lockdown Announcement
From Thursday 5th November TAC club training to be suspended, following the government's announcement.
England Athletics and other organisations are lobbying the government to allow easier restrictions in terms of outdoor activity.

Beckley 10km Road Race, Near Rye, Sunday 1st November
Rachel Fagg (w45) ran 49.07 and Maurice Marchant (m70) 64.49.
Maurice's time has prompted some research into the TAC over 70 record. So far his own 58.20 at Staplehurst on 19th June 2020 is thought to be the record.

Gravesend Floodlit Series 5km and 10km road races, Gravesend, Thursday 29th October

Mallory Park 5k Festival, Leicestershire, Sunday 18th October
The three TAC athletes taking part in this high class event performed excellently. With the vent run in small waves, chip timing was used to establish the overall results.
Ally Kinloch was 4th overall in 14.23, which was 1s inside his pb.
Stuart Brown was 18th in 14.49, which improved his recent pb by 26s.
Kiri Marsh was 14th female in 16.54, which was pb by 21s.

Steve Strange ran with Dan Bradley as they finished 2nd and 3rd overall in 25.57 and 25.59.

Sunday news, 4th October
Sussex Athletics Association Meeting, at Lewes
At Lewes, in extremely windy and wet conditions on Sunday, Fenton Davoren (under 17) made his debut over 3000 metres and ran 9.32.66, gaining 2nd in the Sussex Championship. Olivia Breed (under 15) had her first track race for sixteen months and ran 5.11.26 for 1500 metres.

Hastings Seafront 10km road race
The Hastings Seafront 10km took place on Sunday, with significant Covid guidelines, including entrants setting off at ten second intervals, with results based on the electronic timings recorded. Jacqui O’Reilly won the women’s competition in 43.03 and Dan Bradley was 2nd in the men’s event in 32.54, as seventy competitors took part. Grazia Manzotti ran 49.43 and Deniz Bowart 51.25.

Virtual London Marathon
The London Marathon was cancelled as a mass participation event this year, due to the virus pandemic, but entrants were given the opportunity to run a ‘virtual’ marathon from near home, over a course of their choosing. Personal GPS watches recorded the time and distance and four Tonbridge AC runners took part. Emma Hollands ran 3.26, Penny Pilbeam 3.40, James Winnifrith 3.49 and Eva Kolivoskova-Martin 4.40.

There have been some very good track times posted by TAC young athletes at Dagenham.

Josh Prendergast convincingly won the mile in 4.37.76 which breaks George Duggan's under 15 boys' club record of 4.37.8 !
3000 metres
Lily Slack won her 300m race on her debut at the distance with 10.20.69.
1500 metres
Harrison Fraser (u15) ran 4.49.90 to take about 18s from his personal best and won heat 2. James Petrie (u13) ran 4.56.04 in the same race, which was a 6s pb.
800 metres
Edward Lindsay (u15) ran 2.17.45, which is his first race at the distance for two years. This took 20s from his pb !

MK 5km, Milton Keynes
This event at Milton Keynes attracted some of the country's top distance runners, plus a few from abroad. In fact the men's and women's winners were Ryan and Genevieve Gregson from Australia.
Corey De'Ath was the fastest of the three TAC runners as he recorded 14.46, to equal his pb. This placed him 18th overall.
Stuart Brown ran 15.15 and was 40th overall, although he sprinted to win his 'wave' race of 10 runners, as groups went off every five minutes. Stuart had not raced a 5k before but has a Parkrun pb of 16.17.
Luke Fisher was 67th in 15.42, which is a 19s pb.

James West 3.34.07 TAC 1500m record at Doha Diamond League, Friday 25th September
James West once again lowered his pb and TAC 1500 metres record in Doha on Friday, when finishing 5th in 3.34.07. James also broke the Oregon University record, previously held by 2016 Olympic Champion Matt Centrowitz.

Hercules Wimbledon Meeting, Wednesday 23rd September

This meeting consisted of five 1500m races and seven 3000m races, with four TAC distance runners being in action, all in the latter.
Katie Goodge ran 9.54.84 in race 1 of the 3000m to finish 3rd. Her brother Jamie was in race 6, where he finished 5th with a pb of 8.35.10.
In the final race of the night Kieran Reilly placed 2nd in 8.18.70, whilst Steve Strange struggled with 8.49.23.

James West finished second to Stewie McSweyn of Australia on Tuesday night, setting a new TAC men's 1500 metres record of 3.34.56. This was a pb by 1.2s and James held the previous record. It ranks him 23rd now on the UK All Time list -

Kieran Reilly finished 6th in the Men's A race in 3.45.18, which was a personal best, seven years after the last one that he set !
The time moved Kieran into the TAC top 10 all time list, pushing Steve Fennell out.
The in-form Steve Strange won race 11, in 3.54.60, which was a pb by 3.1s. The only other competitor was Miles Weatherseed who did not finish his race.

Dartford Meeting, , Sunday 13th September
Lily Slack ran 4.47.04 and Sophie slack 5.15.01, for 1500 metres.
Wingham 10km Run, Sunday 13th September
Tina Oldershaw won the women’s race at the Wingham Run near Canterbury, on Sunday. Oldershaw ran the 10 kilometres in 41.20, more than three minutes clear of the second female finisher. Like many other similar events that are currently taking place, runners start in small waves, being socially distanced and positions are determined purely from the times recorded over the set course.
Saturday 12th September results
BFTTA Open Meeting, at Dagenham
Josh Prendergast recorded one of the fastest ever times by a TAC under 15 boy, when he won an 800 metres at Dagenham in 2.02.61. This improved his recent pb by 4.5 seconds and moved him to sixth on the UK rankings for the age group.
South London Harriers Open Track Meeting, at Coulsdon
Charlie Crick finished second over 800 metres in 1.55.40.
Josh Prendergast recorded one of the fastest ever times by a TAC under 15 boy, when he won an 800 metres at Dagenham in 2.02.61. This improved his recent pb by 4.5 seconds and moved him to sixth on the UK rankings for the age group.
South London Harriers Open Track Meeting, at Coulsdon
Charlie Crick finished second over 800 metres in 1.55.40.

English Cross Country Association Statement - 10th September
This was posted on the ECCA Facebook page on Thursday -
Just updating our followers of our efforts to salvage at least some of the XC season.
COVID 19 regulations do provide many hurdles and hoops to go through, but we feel that competition in some form at least needs to be provided if at all possible.
Clearly we cannot have a National Championships in the normal format. So please accept our apologies.
However, we are now able to advise that we are planning to hold the English National Cross Country Relays within the Covid 19 restrictions that currently apply, at Berry Hill Park in Mansfield. The probable format will be to host the event for all age groups over two days – 31st October and 1st November – but entry will be invitation only. Invitations will be sent to the first 30 clubs (‘A’ teams only) in each race at the 2019 championships.
Full details will be sent to those clubs in due course.
We will provide updates as the preparations unfold.

Just updating our followers of our efforts to salvage at least some of the XC season.
COVID 19 regulations do provide many hurdles and hoops to go through, but we feel that competition in some form at least needs to be provided if at all possible.
Clearly we cannot have a National Championships in the normal format. So please accept our apologies.
However, we are now able to advise that we are planning to hold the English National Cross Country Relays within the Covid 19 restrictions that currently apply, at Berry Hill Park in Mansfield. The probable format will be to host the event for all age groups over two days – 31st October and 1st November – but entry will be invitation only. Invitations will be sent to the first 30 clubs (‘A’ teams only) in each race at the 2019 championships.
Full details will be sent to those clubs in due course.
We will provide updates as the preparations unfold.

Aldershot Night of 1500 metres Thursday 10th September 2020

Sean Molloy finished 3rd in the men's A race (race number 15) at Aldershot on Thursday, recording a season's best of 3.53.8. In race 14 (men's B race) Charlie Crick (u20) had an excellent run to win in 3.58.1, which was a pb by 20 seconds.

Jamie Goodge finished 2nd over 5000m with a pb of 15.18.83
Folkestone 10km road race, Sunday
Tom Woolley finished 17th (3rd M40) in 36.54 and Harriet Woolley finish 29th (4th female) in 39.30.
Chatham Maritime 10k road race, Sunday
Dan Bradley was 1st home in 32.16 and Nichola Evans 9th (1st female) in 40.06, which was a pb.

TAC had five distance runners at the British Championships, although all will be a bit disappointed with how it went.
James West was the only one to qualify for a final and finished 4th in the 1500 metres, having hoped to challenge for the title.
Sean Molloy and Ben Murphy were in the 800 metres, whilst Miles Weatherseed and Kieran Reilly ran the 1500 metres.
