Tonbridge AC Challenge Round 1 Awards Announcement
Dear Club Member
You should know that over the past few weeks the club has been organising the Tonbridge AC Challenge and to date we have received 27 nominations.
A judging panel has met and agreed the first group of prize winners as follows -
Joshua Beesley - 1st prize overall
Other initial prizes to be awarded to - Lucy Kingston, Issy Fassnidge, Ella de Munck, Lucas Gorrill, Richard Puxty and Samantha Stubbs.
Mark Hookway will be in contact with all of these prize winners to arrange the awards.
Everyone else, who received a nomination, will be carried forward to the next entry deadline of 14th February, with a further consideration being made on 28th February.
So, if you believe anyone else is deserving of a mention or a prize please submit the details.
All the information can be found at www.tonbridgeac.org.uk (see right hand side of the front page)
You will see that there is a great variety of reasons for the nominations. The objective of running this Challenge was to spread positivity and increase awareness of some of the really good work being done by our members. We feel that this is so important, especially during this difficult time, so it is particularly pleasing that some of the nominations are for those who have undertaken to support causes involving mental wellbeing. The likes of Lucy Kingston and Ella de Munck have raised money, whilst the video posted by Lewis Collins is personal and powerful in delivering the message that you never know what the impact of reaching out to other people can be.
Congratulations to all the nominees and I look forward to reading some more entries in the coming weeks.
Best wishes
James Taylor
Chairman

Been in severe lockdown since early March 2020 to protect a family member. Has kept fit and in January has upped his training considerably.

Nominate yourself or someone else who is currently deserving
The Tonbridge AC Committee are supporting a Challenge over the next few weeks with the aim of spreading some positivity and motivation, whilst highlighting the efforts of members during this difficult time.
Please spend a few moments to read through and think about the things you have been doing or would like to do, does this give that extra bit of motivation you needed? Let us know what you are doing, you may inspire others and win a prize. Parents of young athletes, we know you have a lot on, but please try and remember to pass the message on.
By supporting this initiative you may well help a few others.
Please stay safe, whilst completing any training or challenge.
Many thanks

New Government Guidelines - Tuesday 5th January 2021
The new guidelines, issued by the government, include some key changes that will affect what we are able to do -
Under 18s cannot now participate in organised sport, as had been possible. This will impact on some training sessions that had been planned, such as under 13s returning to Tuesday/Thursday training.
Training once a day outside with one other person is allowed, but travel to 'out of area' locations is not.
The Government guidelines can be found here -
www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home
England Athletics should be updating here -

Tonbridge School Track and facilities closed and TAC training cancelled
Tonbridge School have confirmed that the track, courts, pitches, centre and gym are all closed from midnight tonight (Saturday), following the Government's announcement this afternoon.
This means that effectively TAC training is back to where we were in November when it was only possible to meet/train with one other person outdoors.
I could elaborate with views etc but there is little point , other than it is an extremely frustrating situation for everyone.

Tonbridge AC Christmas Pudding Race, Boxing Day, Saturday 26th December
at Judd Schools Vizards Sports Fields, Lower Hayesden
Start time 11.00am
Latest entries are on the Team Selections and Entries page
Currently we plan to go ahead with this event, although with a different format.
Starts will be in waves, with the fastest groups going first this year.
Handicaps will be removed from times after the events, to determine the best performer.
The usual request for small presents to then be drawn in order of finishing will be replaced with every entrant requested to bring a donation for the local food bank. Angie Crush will administer this on the day.
The event will be run over an accurate 5km cross country course, consisting of 2x2.5km laps.
Entries are free via a Google form here - https://forms.gle/HjrJz1ZKkfuWiajk9
Anyone who can lend a hand as a marshal, an official or with registration please let me know.
This time we will need a few more at the finish to help with moving competitors away as soon as possible.
If anyone is worried about attending please do not feel that you are obliged to. We will continue to assess the full situation as we get nearer to the day.

"Come on Tonbridge !" - Books 1 and 2 by Mark Hookway now available from Amazon
I had to do something since May so wrote a couple of books about our experiences at Tonbridge AC since 2005. A lot of detail and many memories. Available through Amazon with any royalties going in a pot for athlete/event development.
The books are called "Come on Tonbridge !" Diary of a Dreamer, the title being inspired by 'Jock' the bus driver that we have used over many years on various trips.
Hope they bring back some memories for some and also are useful to others.
Be warned as they are warts and all accounts and won't appeal to everyone, I am sure.

Tonbridge AC Distance Runners Challenge November and December 2020
I hope that everyone is ok and managing to stay as positive as possible.
A few of us led by Mark Pitcairn-Knowles have come up with a challenge that might keep a few motivated through to the start of January.
It is based on a series of courses, where you run, post your time and accumulate points.
There are 10 courses (some simply a 2 lap version of a single loop), with half of them suitable for under 13 and 15s.
All the rules and course details are on the attached document and I will also post on the http://www.tacdistancerunners.com web site.
Some of the routes are simpler to follow than others, so make sure that if giving any a go that you do a bit of planning and preparation.
Mark PK has produced the document and even included some video to help with the Penshurst Place route !
For supporters, some offer a nice walk and also have coffee and teas nearby (not all !)
Nichola Evans has offered to collate the results and we will circulate updates. Her contact t details are included in the document.
We really need some evidence that you have done the correct course but if you don’t happen to have a GPS watch then please submit as much ‘evidence’ as you can !
Whether you can only do one of the courses or all ten please give it a go, as simply giving a bit of interest to others at this strange time will make it worthwhile.
Please see the file below but just ask if you have any questions.
Best of luck
