TAC Summer Parkrun Grand Prix
Message from Mark Pitcairn-Knowles
Due to the late organisation of this summers Grand Prix (my fault) I have decided to alter the format and run the competition to include all the Tonbridge Parkruns in June and July. So every Parkrun from the 3rd June will be opportunities to score, your best 4 scores. Otherwise the rules are the same, the most important one being that you need to register that you are a Tonbridge AC member with Parkrun (do this through your weekly Parkrun email)

What was supposed to be a warm, sunny and still evening wasn't as a chilly wind crossed the stadium.
This was the second BMC Grand Prix of the season and included both the under 20 and under 23 trials over 5000 metres, for the respective European Championships. It was a pretty good night overall for TAC -

1500m - George Duggan 1st in B race 3.48.85 (seasons best), Nathan Marsh 1st in E race 3.56.31 (pb)
Womens 5000m A race Nicole Taylor 8th in 16.33.51, Phoebe Barker 10th (1st in u20 trial) in 16.44.07 (debut)

USA Regional Championships News, Thursday 25th to Saturday 27th May
West Region,Austin, Texas
Neither Luca Russo (1500m) or Ryan Driscoll (3000m steeplechase) progressed to the next round. Luca was unlucky as he finished 7th in his heat and just 0.6s from qualifying. This was despite being the 48th of 48 qualifiers in the Regional Championships. Full results are at - live.pttiming.com/?mid=1236
East Region, Lexington, Kentucky
Robbie Farnham-Rose won his 1500m heat in 3.50.06
He then placed 6th in his next round race, on Saturday and qualified for the NCAA (National) Championships
There were two what they call quarter finals, as the National Champs have the semis and final. Robbie was in race two and knew that the top seven would qualify, provided that the pace was reasonable. So it was just a case of doing enough to qualify.

Tonbridge AC finished 2nd of the six teams, which was a real improvement on 4th in the first match.
In the distance races perhaps the under 13, 1200 metres win by Olivia Breed stood out, as her 3.53.8 is one of the fastest TAC times ever recorded.
Katie Burgess and Katie Goodge, combined with sprinters Eliz O'Donnell and Maisie Rixon to win the 4x300m in 3.01.9, which was just outside the TAC under 15 club record.

Three TAC distance runners make USA NCAA Regional Championships
Three TAC distance runners have qualified for this year's Regional Championships, in the USA.
The US College system involves the top 48 athletes per event, from each region (West and East) contesting the Regional Championships. This is based on performance rankings, from the season so far.
Both championships take place next weekend, from Thursday 25th May and include heats and 'finals'. Then the 'top 12' (like qualifying through heats) from each region qualify for the National Collegiate (NCAA) Championships at Eugene, Oregon, two weeks later.
Luca Russo is running 1500m in the West, where Ryan Driscoll will contest the 3000m steeplechase. Entries are at -
www.flotrack.org/event/254984-2017-di-ncaa-west-preliminary-round/entries
Robbie Farnham-Rose goes in the 1500m in the East. Entries are at -
www.flotrack.org/event/254983-2017-di-ncaa-east-preliminary-round/entries
Henry Pearce was very unlucky not to make the West Region 10,000 metres as his 29.41 was just two seconds away from the top 48 listing, even though he won the race, in which he ran his best time.

TAC had probably the largest squad for some time in the Kent Young Athletes League, with a division 1 and division 2 teams, plus non scorers. The effort was swelled by Judd School providing a combined effort in division 2, as TAC finished a close second to Blackheath in both leagues.
It was good to see a number of young distance runners making their debuts at the specific events of 1200m and 1500m, with some significant personal bests being recorded. See the summary with the results. Fraser Gordon provided the only A-string win in division 1 with a 1500m pb of 4.19.4.

Ryan Driscoll breaks Stuart Kirk's 34 year old Tonbridge AC 3000 metres steeplechase record with 8.50.87
After four previous sub nine clockings Ryan Driscoll broke Stuart Kirk's Tonbridge AC 3000 metres steeplechase record last night with 8.50.87, in California. Ryan is one of the most popular lads at the club and it's fitting that he takes Stuart's record, as he was similarly thought of. The record lasted 34 years and what a great testament to Stuart, who was tragically killed in a car accident back in the 80s, whilst at Northern Arizona University.

TAC Masters 600 metre record holders meet up at training
On Monday Simon Fraser broke the club record for the over 40 men's 600m, that had been held since 1977 by Alan Marriott. They didn't know each other but were both at training on Thursday evening, so we grabbed the photo opportunity. Alan has been setting a few 70+ records and hopefully a few 80+ targets for Simon to aim at in the future !

TAC Winter Parkrun Grand Prix 2016/17 concluded - Sophie Slack tops the table
From Mark Pitcairn-Knowles
Congratulations to Sophie Slack who is the winner of the TAC Winter 16-17 Parkrun age graded grand prix.
There were a massive 28 TAC runners at Tonbridge Parkrun today. With previous leader Andrew Mercer out injured, it was left to see if consistent scorer Huxley Crush could out score Lily Slack, Sophie Slack and Olukorede Fasina, all of whom had only 3 scores recorded up to this point.
There were some quality performances by TAC runners today but Lily Slack topped them all on age grading with 84.11%, to take the maximum 28 points available and 3rd place overall. However, Sophie did just enough with 26 points for a total of 73, to hold off Olukorede ,23 points today, who managed 71 overall. Despite boosting his score by 12 points, Huxley had to settle for 4th place and beating his Uncle today.
Luciana Anderson was the only other runner, apart from Andrew Mercer, in the top 12 to have registered only 3 scores, to finish only 18 points of the winner. A total of 71 TAC runners registered scores on at least one of the specified dates.
The Summer dates will be released shortly.

USA News - Thursday 13th April - Henry Pearce 29.41 for 10,000 metres
Mount Sac Relays Invitational Meeting
Henry Pierce had an excellent race over 10,000 metres, at the Mount Sac meeting. He won his race in 29.41.12, having gone through halfway in 'only' 15.06. So he must have run a personal best for the second half, over 5000 metres, in around 14.36!
Henry took the lead just over three kilometres out and ran around 8.37 for that last 3000 metres. He commented that he was a bit frustrated, as he was after a time to secure spot in the USA Regional Championships, which he missed. However, his time was a big pb, improving his previous best by 45 seconds.

TAC Winter parkrun update after 1st April event by Mark Pitcairn-Knowles
Minimum number of 10 runners at Parkrun today frustrated Huxley Crush as he attempted to overhaul the injured Andrew Mercer. He needs 2 points to draw level with Andrew, but courtesy of his discarded scores being higher, that would be enough. However today despite being second on TAC age grading to Olukoreda Fasina (they both ran PB’s) by just 0.61% this gave him 9 points which is equal to his lowest score so far. This was also the case for Amber Crush and Aimee Holdstock who were unable to better their scores so far. So with the last race to go on the 15th April Huxley will need to mobilise his family and friends at TAC to ensure he gets rewarded with at least 11 points, unless Olukorede, Sophie and Lily Slack complete a 4th score.

Friday 31st March News
Luca Russo moved to second on the 2017 TAC 1500 metre rankings with a terrific win at the Stanford Invitational Meeting, in California.
Racing for Missouri University Luca won section 6 of the mens 1500 metres in 3.46.47, which was a personal best by more than four seconds. Last year the qualifying time for the Olympic Trials in the UK was 3.47 so hopefully it won't change for this season's World Championship trials.
At the same meeting Ryan Driscoll, racing for San Francisco University was 4th in section 3 of the 3000 metres steeplechase in 8.56.99. Ryan unfortunately was taken down by another falling athlete at the first water jump. He got back up and his time was just 0.2s away from a pb and not far off the TAC record of 8.55.0.

at Cyclopark, Gravesend, Saturday 25th March - Video loaded !
The Tonbridge men's team pulled off an exciting win, to claim the club's first ever medals in the iconic 12 stage road relay championship, whilst the ladies were 13th in their championship. The mens team finished over a minute clear of Serpentine, with Highgate third, followed by Aldershot, Kent AC and Belgrave. Full results are on the Results 2017 page.
First of all, although it wasn't easy, it was a great effort by everyone to complete two mens teams of twelve and two women's teams of six. So we had 36 runners out in total.
James West 'won' leg 1 of the men's race and posted the 4th fastest time of the 'Long' legs (the race alternates Long and Short stages). On the short stage Alex Howard was 3rd fastest and Jamie Goodge, with probably his best ever race, 4th fastest. Ashley Gibson was 2nd fastest overall on the short stage, in the women's race.
