Fixture 3: Sunday 7th July – Crawley
Fixture 4: Saturday 3rd August – National Final (Promotion Match at Bedford)

TAC Junior Endurance Day, at Tonbridge School, Saturday 13th April
Please find below details of a day being organised by Michael Ellis, the TAC Coaching Coordinator.
Hopefully, the day will arm some of our young distance runners with some really useful information.
It would be great if we could get as many of of young runners together as possible.
There is a cost involved to help cover the expenses of hiring those involved.

English National Cross Country Championships, at Weston Park, Shropshire, Saturday 24th February
0nMost readers will have heard that the championships were cancelled, with it being announced around 11am on Friday morning.
With 2 buses, a hotel for 2 nights and a formal dinner all booked at Telford, the vast majority decided to still travel and make the most of it.
The weekend was somewhat different than it might have been, with many running Friday on arrival and then participating in a quiz. On Saturday morning the plan was for the squad to take part in the Telford parkrun, but below freezing temperature meant that the course was a bit slippery and that was cancelled ! So, another run took place.
On Saturday afternoon we identified a good course for a mass relay, which saw more than 60 runners take part.
Then on Saturday evening the TAC Awards dinner took place , with team photos and some improvisation required to decide some winners. It was still an excellent evening, enjoyed by about 120 people.

British Indoor Athletics Championships, at Birmingham,Sunday 18th February - Day 2
Videos loaded !
Quite a day for TAC as James West retained his 3000 metres title with a confident display, winning in 7.51.09., with a final 1000 metres in a round 2.26.
After that, Jack Higgins produced one of the shocks of the championships when he snatched the 800m win over Guy Learmonth by just 1/1000th of a second. His time of 1.47.91 moves him to 3rd from 8th on the TAC all-time rankings for indoor or out, ahead of Steve Fennell and behind Ben Murphy and Sean Molloy. It also puts Jack inside the UK top 50 times indoors.
Ben Murphy was 8th in the 1500m final.

Nicole Taylor (Blunden) announces retirement from competitive running
Nicole Taylor, who is now Blunden, having married Henry in August, has decided to retire from competitive running. This is part of what she wrote to me -
"The experience I’ve had at Tonbridge has been an absolute dream and I can’t thank the club enough for the amazing opportunities and experiences I’ve had. There is no way I could have achieved an England vest without the support of the club… It’s been like having another family! Whilst I’m retiring you can’t keep me away, I’ll be popping in every now and then and cheer on the club!! "
Nicole had 15 years competing with TAC, starting with a Kent Cross Country League as an under 15, in 2008. She went on to develop into one of the best female distance runners in the country, winning national titles, gaining England vests, setting plenty of TAC records and very often leading the way for the club.
Nicole was not the best at a young age, but through her tremendous work ethic became one of the best seniors. This is her Power of 10 profile - thepowerof10.info/athletes/profile.aspx?athleteid=82347
We send her every best wish for the future.

Blackheath and Bromley Cross Country Relays at West Wickham, Saturday 16th September

The junior (u13/15) race was spoilt by poor organisation with some runners going off course and also mistakes made with the finish line recording. The was very disappointing for everyone and ruined what was building up to be a good race at the front. The issues were rectified for the senior race, which seemed to go smoothly.
In the junior race Peter Fitzmaurice had a very good run to win the first leg and was the fastest lap of the day.
The senior race was dominated by TAC having the first four teams home, with the women being second to Blackheath.
James Kingston was the fastest lap with 12.17, with Matthew Taylor at 12.57 and Corey De'Ath 13.05. James' time was the fastest ever , 8s faster than Ryan Driscoll ran a few years back.
With two teams matched up to create a good race, it was Matt Taylor who overtook Toby Emm on the last leg who won the race for team 2 (Michael Ellis, Corey, Alex Beeston and Matt)

Saucony at TAC, Tuesday 12th September evening
Michael Ellis reports that the Running Hub can offer 10% discount to anyone who wishes to purchase the shoes they tried from them.
The Running Hub (ie Dave Castle, Michael Ellis, James Kingston and others from TAC) have a lot of shoe knowledge and it is vital that you wear shoes that are right for you. It is awful seeing runners with continuous injury issues, when they havent spent the time being checked if the shoes are right for their gait, biomechanics etc. There have been quite a few examples this year where the team have helped resolve issues.

Although the overall entries were down on last year the sun came out and there were a few hundred people competing, spectating, officiating and helping. Many thanks to everyone who came along, especially those who helped out.
There were four distance events on - 500m, 1 mile, 3000m and 5000m. A few of the highlights were Phoebe Barker attacking Nicole Taylor's (now Blunden since the wedding) TAC women's 5000m record of 15.49.25 and looking on track to beat it for much of the race. In the end Phoebe had to settle for being just the second TAC female to ever break 16 minutes on the track with 15.54.05.
There were big 3000m personal bests for Tom Lockhart, Toby Bawtree, Charlie Ellison Mark Bridger and Lizzie Owen, whilst Peter Fitzmaurice and Samuel Smialowski did likewise in the mile.
Charlie Crick won the invitational 500m in 63.41, which saw some of the middle distance runners take on the sprinters.
A summary of TAC results is on the Results 2023 page.
