One 800m race resulted in a number of changes in the TAC all time best list, as four Tonbridge athletes ran sub 1.54, with only Charlie Crick (1.52.03) not running a personal best.
Simon Coppard had his first 800m race of the season, finishing 2nd in 1.49.93, which was his first sub 1.50 clocking and only the eighth TAC athlete to do this. Kieran Reilly ran 1.51.82 to finally erase his pb from 2014 and Jordan Chambers recorded 1.53.71 to take another second from his pb.
The 3000m races were quite spread out but all four TAC had strong runs. Jamie Goodge ran 8.26.80, a pb by 8.3s. Matthew Dubery ran 8.54.39, his first time under 9 minutes, whilst Nicole Taylor ran 9.22.59 and Katie Goodge 10.08.82.

Hercules Wimbledon Middle Distance Night, Wednesday 2nd June

Using some of the royalties from the books "Come on Tonbridge ! - Diary of a Dreamer" it was possible to stage an invitation men's 1500m at Wimbledon and offer prize money to the fastest women in the mixed races. Elliot Giles subsequently asked to race and won in fine style in 3.40.36, with a mass of athletes battling behind him. Sean Molloy ran 3.44.90 to finish 3rd and Ben Murphy 3.47.42 for 9th, both running under 3.50 for the first time. For Sean, it was an Olympic Trials qualifying time, being inside the 3.47 standard and I think TAC now has five in this one event ! Sean moves to 11th on the TAC all time list.
James Kingston went under 4 minutes for the first time with 3.57.03 in the open 1500m, race 6, a pb by 3.5s, whilst Steve Strange was disappointed with his 4.04.56, having lead early on.
In the 3000m Tom Woolley ran 10.13.51 in race 2 and James Pigot had his first race over the distance since 2012 and recorded 10.08.08 in race 2.

Phoebe is one of the TAC Takeaways mentors who has offered some great advice in the video clips. She is clearly putting some of her own advice into practise as she is coming back after a year of the pandemic, a few injuries and having been cross training to supplement her running.

In the middle-distance events, Ben Murphy won the 1000 metres in 2.29.91, edging out Kieran Reilly at the end. Similarly, under 17s Huxley Crush (2.09.84) and Angus Currie (2.10.38) had a race to the line over 800 metres. Lily Stewart was the fastest female at the distance with 2.26.68. Verity Hopkins continued her run of good form over a range of distances and this time recorded 4.55.41 in her first ever 1500 metres. Stuart Brown impressed as the overall fastest, at the distance, winning in 4.01.62 and looks set for a potentially good season.
It's worth looking at the summary on the Results 2021 if you felt disappointed with your time. Conditions were extremely challenging and plenty of people were running 10 to 15s slower than they hoped over 1500m.
