Lucy Reid breaks TAC women's 5 mile road record at Victory 5, at Portsmouth, Sunday 2nd December
Lucy Reid broke her own TAC 5 miles record when she recorded 27.05 when winning the Victory 5. In the process she had maybe her biggest win, in terms of who was behind her as Charlotte Purdue, from Aldershot was nine seconds behind. Purdue ran for Great Britain in last year's World Championships marathon. Lucy' time was 29 seconds faster than her TAC record set at the same race last year. It is also ranked second on the UK 2018 rankings -

Tonbridge AC - helping the young athlete’s mindset - u13s,15s,17s please try and support !
So far 13 signed up
We will be holding two sessions in the next few weeks, involving the club’s distance runners in the under 13, 15 and 17 age groups.
The idea has been prompted by Cathy Hughes, who coaches at the club and has both James and Steph Puxty as children involved in the sport. Cathy works at Sport England and is particularly involved in the areas that affect the well being of those involved in sport.
The aim will be to discuss and potentially help with the psychological side of our sport, including aspects such as -
Dealing with fluctuations in performance
Pressures relating to training and racing
How to think when training is going well or badly
Overcoming injuries and/or illness
Preparing for competition
Balancing running with other priorities in your life
Due to the need for some openness with the discussions there will be a separate male and female session.
Wednesday 19th December 7pm to 8pm - male young athletes
At the TAC club pavilion at Tonbridge School Track
Jamie Goodge, Sam Crick, who are both in the under 20 age group and been through the age groups will give a short talk each on some of their experiences. Michael Bannister, who helps coach at the club, will facilitate the evening. We hope to sign up an established senior athlete to also be present to contribute.
Wednesday 2nd January 7pm to 8pm - female young athletes
At the TAC club pavilion at Tonbridge School Track
Alice Wood and Nicole Taylor, who are both in their early 20s and been through the age groups will give a short talk each on some of their experiences. Cathy Hughes, who helps coach at the club will facilitate the evening.
After careful consideration we feel that both parents and coaches (including me !) will not be present, as hopefully this will encourage an open discussion. If all goes well it may well be possible to follow up with similar evenings for parents and coaches !
So that we can plan for eventual numbers please book a place with Cathy Hughes via email [email protected]

The trials for the Great Britain teams, to compete at the European Cross Country Championships next month, were held at Sefton Park, Liverpool and fourteen of the club’s runners raced. Conditions were the driest they had been for years at the venue, making each race a test of speed and endurance.
The men’s race was over 9800 metres and was won by Ross Millington, of Stockport in 28.00. Corey De’Ath had one of his best ever performances to finish in 17thplace in 28.51 and was unlucky to miss out on a place in the GB under 23 team, being seventh in that category and just four seconds from a place on the team. There were solid performances in the race by four others, with Kieran Reilly (49th), Max Nicholls (51st), Dom Brown (54th) and Ryan Driscoll (57th) as 622 finished.
In the women’s race Lucy Reid improved by thirty-nine places on her performance from last year to finish 20th, with Ashley Gibson 34thand Kiri Marsh 53rdalso having fine races.
James Puxty showed good form to move through during the under 20 men’s event to finish 15th, with Alasdair Kinloch 26th, Jamie Goodge 30thand Bede Pitcairn-Knowles 93rd. Fraser Gordon was the only member of the club’s younger athletes to make the journey and finished 13thin the under 17 race.

NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships, at Sacramento, USA, Friday 9th November
Chris Olley finished 9th and James West 61st. Both will be disappointed, although it looks like James will qualify to run in next weekend's National championships, as part of the Oregon team. In Chris' case he was under par in the lead up and has just missed out on an individual for the National, which would is a shame.

National Cross Country Relay Championships, at Mansfield, Saturday 3rd November

There was another piece of TAC history created yesterday as firstly the under 13 girls team (Lily Slack, Sophie Slack, Olivia Breed) became the first female club team to win a National Cross Country Relay Championship.
Then the Senior Women's team of Nicole Taylor,Lucy Reid and Ashley Gibson produced a brilliant performance to win by 34 seconds from Aldershot. TAC had only completed a women's team at the event once before, when they finished 31st two years ago. It was also TAC's first ever National title from the women, following on from the first ever medal at last month's road relays.
The under 20 men's team of Jamie Goodge, Alasdair Kinloch and James Puxty were involved in a titanic battle throughout their race and won the silver medals.
