Lucy Reid breaks TAC women's 5 mile road record at Victory 5, at Portsmouth, Sunday 2nd December
Lucy Reid broke her own TAC 5 miles record when she recorded 27.05 when winning the Victory 5. In the process she had maybe her biggest win, in terms of who was behind her as Charlotte Purdue, from Aldershot was nine seconds behind. Purdue ran for Great Britain in last year's World Championships marathon. Lucy' time was 29 seconds faster than her TAC record set at the same race last year. It is also ranked second on the UK 2018 rankings -

Tonbridge AC - helping the young athlete’s mindset - u13s,15s,17s please try and support !
So far 13 signed up
We will be holding two sessions in the next few weeks, involving the club’s distance runners in the under 13, 15 and 17 age groups.
The idea has been prompted by Cathy Hughes, who coaches at the club and has both James and Steph Puxty as children involved in the sport. Cathy works at Sport England and is particularly involved in the areas that affect the well being of those involved in sport.
The aim will be to discuss and potentially help with the psychological side of our sport, including aspects such as -
Dealing with fluctuations in performance
Pressures relating to training and racing
How to think when training is going well or badly
Overcoming injuries and/or illness
Preparing for competition
Balancing running with other priorities in your life
Due to the need for some openness with the discussions there will be a separate male and female session.
Wednesday 19th December 7pm to 8pm - male young athletes
At the TAC club pavilion at Tonbridge School Track
Jamie Goodge, Sam Crick, who are both in the under 20 age group and been through the age groups will give a short talk each on some of their experiences. Michael Bannister, who helps coach at the club, will facilitate the evening. We hope to sign up an established senior athlete to also be present to contribute.
Wednesday 2nd January 7pm to 8pm - female young athletes
At the TAC club pavilion at Tonbridge School Track
Alice Wood and Nicole Taylor, who are both in their early 20s and been through the age groups will give a short talk each on some of their experiences. Cathy Hughes, who helps coach at the club will facilitate the evening.
After careful consideration we feel that both parents and coaches (including me !) will not be present, as hopefully this will encourage an open discussion. If all goes well it may well be possible to follow up with similar evenings for parents and coaches !
So that we can plan for eventual numbers please book a place with Cathy Hughes via email [email protected]

The trials for the Great Britain teams, to compete at the European Cross Country Championships next month, were held at Sefton Park, Liverpool and fourteen of the club’s runners raced. Conditions were the driest they had been for years at the venue, making each race a test of speed and endurance.
The men’s race was over 9800 metres and was won by Ross Millington, of Stockport in 28.00. Corey De’Ath had one of his best ever performances to finish in 17thplace in 28.51 and was unlucky to miss out on a place in the GB under 23 team, being seventh in that category and just four seconds from a place on the team. There were solid performances in the race by four others, with Kieran Reilly (49th), Max Nicholls (51st), Dom Brown (54th) and Ryan Driscoll (57th) as 622 finished.
In the women’s race Lucy Reid improved by thirty-nine places on her performance from last year to finish 20th, with Ashley Gibson 34thand Kiri Marsh 53rdalso having fine races.
James Puxty showed good form to move through during the under 20 men’s event to finish 15th, with Alasdair Kinloch 26th, Jamie Goodge 30thand Bede Pitcairn-Knowles 93rd. Fraser Gordon was the only member of the club’s younger athletes to make the journey and finished 13thin the under 17 race.

National Cross Country Relay Championships, at Mansfield, Saturday 3rd November

There was another piece of TAC history created yesterday as firstly the under 13 girls team (Lily Slack, Sophie Slack, Olivia Breed) became the first female club team to win a National Cross Country Relay Championship.
Then the Senior Women's team of Nicole Taylor,Lucy Reid and Ashley Gibson produced a brilliant performance to win by 34 seconds from Aldershot. TAC had only completed a women's team at the event once before, when they finished 31st two years ago. It was also TAC's first ever National title from the women, following on from the first ever medal at last month's road relays.

TAC had some excellent results, headed by the girls and ladies !
1st Under 13 girls (Olivia Breed, Sophie Slack, Lily Slack)
Lily ran the fastest lap of the whole race and recorded the fastest ever TAC u13 time on the course.
3rd Senior Women (Nicole Taylor, Phoebe Barker, Elle Baker, Ashley Gibson)
This was the first time that a TAC women's team have won medals in any National Championship.
4th Senior Men (plus 1st B team in 14th)
It's now 4 years in a row of recording a top 4 position. Corey De'Ath had his best ever race on the first leg.
4th Under 13 boys
The team probably performed above expectations. Albert Kreuzberg ran the 6th fastest lap of the race.
6th Under 17 men
Another really good performance, with a squad that has a better chance when four in a team and all present.
7th Under 15 boys
Matthew Taylor almost grabbed 5th spot on the last leg. The whole squad did well, after a last minute adjustment, when Fin Croll had to drop out with his knee issue, after warming up.
12th Under 17 women
This team also out performed expectations, with Katie Goodge running the 4th fastest lap of the race and Elizabeth Heslop having her best ever race. This was the largest number of u17 women that we had taken to the championships.
39th Under 15 girls
Well done to the three girls who committed and gave it their all. We lack numbers in this age group, but it ensured that we were represented in all eight races, which few clubs manage.
Overall we had six teams finish in top 7 positions, a feat never achieved before and had 60 starters across the age groups, which is also a record.

Southern Counties Veterans League Final, at Ashford, Sunday 30th September
Both the TAC men and women had qualified for the league final, with the women taking a fine 2nd place and the men a very close 3rd place.
There were some impressive performances from the distance runners -
Maria Heslop is one of the few athletes who can be competitive at a younger age group, aswell as her own and she did this on Sunday. She comfortably won the over 50 women’s 3000 metres in 10.41.06 and also won the over 35’s 1500 m in 4.56.14. Before all of that she was second over 800m in 2.26.5, in the younger age group. Both her 800m and 1500m times were pbs.
Adam Roeder won a "tactically brilliant" (according to coach Pete Mason) B string m35 800m, whilst Antonia Skerritt (w35, B string 800m) and Nichola Evans (w35, B string 1500m) did likewise.
Claire Day won the B string w35, 3000m in 11.09.60, which was a big pb, by almost 12 seconds.

Senior Race
Tonbridge AC dominated with the men finishing 1st , 2nd and 3rd as the three equally selected teams matched up well.
The ladies took 1st and 3rd, whilst Phoebe Barker and Ryan Driscoll recorded the fastest laps in the senior race.
Ryan and Corey De'Ath moved to first and second on the TAC all time list on this course.
Junior Race
The Tonbridge u15 boys and u13 girls were first home in their categories.
Matthew Taylor and Henry Taylor ran the two fastest laps, with 11.59 and 12.29. Ananjan Ganguli went off course at some stage so his time of 12.25 is not a valid one. He admitted the error straight after to officials.
Gracie MacAuley ran the fastest u13 girls lap, with Olivia Breed just a fraction slower.
Many thanks to all the runners and supporters who came along. Although it is quite a low key event many said how much they enjoyed it and its a great way of getting to see our runners in early season action. It was very impressive how everyone turned up on time, registered and got on with it. Many thanks particularly to Julie Goodge who helped organise the junior squads.
I will be working on the race videos later on Sunday.
